Archaeologists
identify the mummy of a lost Egyptian queen - By Melissa Kong
Egyptian
archaeologists announced on Wednesday that they have identified a mummy
discovered in 1903 as that of Queen Hatshepsut (hat-shep-soot), Egypt’s most
powerful female pharaoh. The mummy was originally found in the Valley of the
Kings, a sacred burial site for kings and powerful nobles located on the west
bank of the Nile River in Egypt. Although the mummy was discovered more than a
century ago, it remained in a tomb until this past spring, when it was brought
to the Cairo Museum for testing.
A Powerful
Ruler’s Legacy
Queen Hatshepsut was
the only woman to rule ancient Egypt while the kingdom was at the height of its
wealth and power, from about 1502 to 1482 B.C. Of all the female
pharaohs–including Cleopatra and Nefertiti–Hatshepsut’s reign was the longest
and most successful. While in power, she established trade routes and built
hundreds of monuments and temples throughout Egypt. Despite her prosperous
reign, both her mummy and her legacy were virtually erased from Egyptian
history. Many historians believe that Tuthmose III, Hatshepsut’s stepson,
destroyed records and monuments bearing her name. It may have been his revenge.
It is believed that she stole the throne from him. Finding the mummy of this
powerful queen may provide details about an important part of Egyptian history.

We all know Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, but who is the actress who plays her?
F A C T F I L E
Name: Jennifer Shrader
Lawrence
Place of birth: Kentucky, USA
Date of birth: August 15, 1990
Profession: TV and film actress
Parents: Karen and Gary
Lawrence
Brothers: Ben and Blaine
Jennifer was a real tomboy growing up. When she was in
preschool, she wasn't allowed to play with the other girls because
she was "too rough." As a child, she liked sports and she played
hockey and basketball for an all-boys team, but she also worked as
a model. As a young person, she wanted to be a surgeon, but at the
age of 14, she knew she wanted to be an actress. She went to New
York City to look for work, although she had never had any acting
classes. She appeared in advertisements for MTV and the fashion
company H&M and got work as an actress on TV. Her family
moved to Los Angeles so that Jennifer could work on TV and in
films. She was nominated for many awards, including an Oscar for
her role in the film Winter’s Bone (2010). In 2012 she starred in the
film The Hunger Games, a film based on the book trilogy of the
same name. The film became one of the highest-grossing movies
ever and instantly propelled her to the A-list among young
actors/actresses. By age 23, she became the youngest actress to be
nominated for three Oscars, including two of them for leading
role, one of which she won in 2013 for her performance in Silver
Linings Playbook. She gave her Oscar to her parents, who keep it
in their home in Louisville, Kentucky, because she felt "odd"
having it in her own house. When she isn’t working, Jen likes
painting, surfing, playing the guitar and horse riding. She has a
dog but she is terrified of spiders. She is very competitive and she
never diets. She likes to exercise, instead.
