Hans Christian Andrersen was a poor child who lived in Denmark. At 14 years old he moved to Copenhagen because he wanted to have an artistic career. Unfortunately, he didn't succeed and he started writing plays and novels. Later on he also wrote children's stories as The Snow Queen, Thumbelina, The Little Mermaid, The Emperor's new clothes, The little match girl and The Ugly Duckling. He became famous and rich but he wasn't happy, having no wife or children. He died at 70 years old.

The Snow Queen

Two goblins broke a magic mirror that made things look ugly. The pieces scattered all over the world. They entered  people's eyes and hearts, making them see the world distorted and changing them into cold humans.

Gerda and Kay, best friends forever, were also the victims of the incident with the mirror. Kay changed from a good and kind person into a mean, cold one. Kay was attracted to Snow Queen and left with her.

 After a while, when spring came again, Gerda decided to search for her friend. After being enchanted and kept prisoner by a witch, she ran away and she was helped by a crow to go into a palace, where Kay could be, but he wasn't there. On her way she met a family of robbers that were attracted by her expensive clothes and gold carriage. She was given a reindeer to help her get to Lapland, where a Lapland woman was. Once there, Gerda received a letter for a Finnish woman who was supposed to help her. Gerda arrived to Snow Queen's castle where she found Kay. Overcome with emotion they burst into tears. Gerda's tears washed the mirror pieces from Kay's heart, while his own tears washed the pieces from his eyes.

Joyful to recognise their real feelings, they went back home and enjoyed life together.

Teens in the UK and Romania

The most popular sport in  the UK is athletics while in Romania it is doing no sport. Anyway, the most popular sports are football, basketball and martial arts. In Romania the extreme sports aren't popular, but riding scooters is.

Speaking about indoor activites in Romania teens play video games rather than  going out for meals or hanging out in shopping centres. The UK teenagers go to the cinema whereas the Romanian teens walk through the town because there aren't cinemas in towns.

Some other activities teenagers from the UK do are spending time online, on social networks or watching films online. Romanian teens do mostly the same activities that the British teens do.

Reading is not a favourite activity to none of the teens mentioned above .

 " Revolting Rhymes " - Roald Dahl

grin = ranjet
tough = greu de mestecat
helping = portie de mancare
to curl (ed) = a ondula
knickers = chiloti de dama
to flicker =  a se zbate rapid
hood = gluga
unlike = spre deosebire de ....

In Dahl's version it doesn't show the beginning at Little Red Riding Hood's house unlike the original story.
In the original story LRRH didn't ask ,,grandma" about ,,her" fur, while in this version she did, instead of asking her about ,,her" teeth.
On the other hand a hunter killed the wolf, but in this story LRRH shot the wolf.
In the classical story the hunter  killed the wolf to save the girl and her grandma, while LRRH shot the wolf to take his coat.

straw/ hay = paie
twigs = surcele
to stroll / have a stroll= a face o plimbare
bloated = balonat
to make a deal = a se targui

The classical story began when the three  pigs left home and they chose to build houses out of different materials. However, in Dahl's version the story started when the wolf got hungry.

Even though in the original story the first two piglets escaped to their younger brother's house, in this alternative story the oldest and the middle child got eaten alive.

The wolf couldn't destroy the brick house and threatened to blow it up with dynamite, but in the original story the wolf tried to enter the house by its chimney.

Scared, the oldest pig called LRRH to save him in this version. On the other hand, in the original story the oldest pig prepared a cauldron with hot water to get rid of the wolf.

On the other hand the wolf in this story was shot to death , while in the classical story he just got injured .

The appearance of LRRH as the saviour is also an element of humour. However, Dahl goes even further when he presents LRRH in the end , with two wolf coats and a pig skin travelling bag .

In the original story Jack isn't beaten with the vacuum cleaner hose, while in Dahl's story he is. However, the giant sits on the beanstalk, while in the classical story he has got a house in the clouds.
In Dahl's version the beanstalk has got upper golden leaves, unlike the classical story where the giant has a hen that lays golden eggs.

In this story Jack's mum gets eaten by the giant because of her smell but Jack proves to be smarter and cleans himself in order not to be smelled by the giant so that he can get some golden leaves atop of the beanstalk.

COMPARE THE AZTECS WITH THE INCAS using the words above:

The Aztecs were farmers and craftsmen . However, the Incas were only great farmers.

While the Aztecs' houses were made from mud and bricks, the Incas' houses were made from stone.

All the Aztecs' children went to school. On the other hand only the rich Incas' sons went to school.

A lot of the Aztecs' died from smallpox, despite being a childhood disease.

Even though smallpox was a childhood disease, a lot of the Aztecs' died of it.

SESSION 22

 " Dog vs.Cat "

    Mister Button bought a dog and Misses Button bought a cat as pets. Unfortunately the animals had to share the room. Their habits were very different: their welcoming habits didn't match, the cat didn't like being licked and the dog wasn't keen on mice. On the other hand, the dog was happy chasing his tail while the cat liked curling up on the bed with a book. The dog preferred chatting with its friends all day long whereas the cat wanted to play games all night long. Even the litter box was an issue. To make the dog mad, the cat ate food with garlic.

    Dog rubbed balloons all over the carpet and stuck them to the cat. The cat popped the balloons almost giving it a heart atack. The cat filled the dog's bowl with fur balls and during the nap time the dog poured water on the cat. The cat used a dog silent whistle to make it howl in the middle of the night. The pets made a wall in the middle of their  room in order to separate themselves. One day the dog started to miss the cat and remembered their happy memories and the cat started to do the same. All of a sudden they heard a howl from downstairs. Each of them got worried. They could not believe that the Buttons got another pet.

    But it was their baby: crying, howling, pooping and filling the room with bad smell. Hard to live with. They moved out and built their own homes.
